One of RDJ's major appeals is that he seems to have a very good sense of humor about himself that Tom Cruise has previously lacked.

The Tropic Thunder thing made it seem like Tom was willing to poke a little fun at his well controlled off screen persona. But the more he does it, the more calculated it feels.
