It wasn't that the Lakers suddenly learned how to defend...

it was that they only had to defend about 50% of the space they normally have to. Anything outside of 15Ft was radioactive to Celtics shooters.

All the Lakers had to do was defend the paint and wait for Ray, Pierce or Rondo to try and charge the basket.
