I think the effects hold up reasonably well. (spoilers)

Ok, so the close ups of the torpedo hitting the Akula are the weak point and they do alot of CGI trickery by hiding the primary object behind something to obscure the CGI but it works well. It's certainly better than the SyFy CGI seen in things like "SS DOOMTROOPER".
