For things like that, I'd rather see the ability to "scribble" (for lack of a better word) specific posts.

Like the "bleh" and "ding" buttons. If enough folks hit the "spoiler" button, the subject gets replaced with "this post contains spoilers"
Yeah, I can see that being abused, too. But that's a lot less irritating than finding someone has changed what the said in a post to avoid criticism.
