if they didn't show midnights, the audience would filter down to the rest of the day. Women want to see Twilight. More importantly, they want to see Twilight in groups and/or brag about having been to see Twilight afterward.

I experienced exactly this at a social gathering this evening.

(Yes, I was polite about it.)
