when I have veggies coming to a bbq, I'll tease and say "fine, I'll grill a salad for you" but whats funny is...I actually grill salads

get a package of baby romain lettuces (that the long thin stalky heads) and cut them length wise into halfs or quarters KEEPING the root end on.

brush with oil (peanut, macadamia if you want to be fancy, or sesame...0live oil isnt that good at high heat of a grill) and scortch them, tastes good as the heat carmelizes the sugars in the leaves and makes them sweet and carbonous.
