I bought mine at WM for $60 and it's fine. my thought was that if I saved a year, it was all gravy.

there's a point of diminishing returns. I'm not spending $180 now to save $5 per month. what are the chances the modem will last three years? what's the benefit to the costlier unit? what is my effective cost of capital? what is the opportunity cost of that $120?

I bought mine in May 2009. I have saved its price including cost of capital. I am happy.
