But of course we have windows that open from the side, not the bottom and they don't open wide enough for me to fit an a/c in it.

I have one in the wall that's broken and I was hoping to replace it but I just can't drop the $300-$400 right now. I've been hoping I'd get lucky and a friend or family member might be upgrading and toss me their old one cheap or for free. :-)
