if you're a retailer you want the repeat business and some companies give "mayors' special discounts....

the more you come in the more you check it. You want people to be mayor so that means more people checking in....
I'm getting ready to launch a program with Foursqaure next month...Mayor of Downtown Comics gets 20% off purchase when he flashes his phone and has the mayor button....
when you're ousted as Mayor you lose the button to the other guy....
Plus it's a nice little program to let you know what's in the area if you want
