OTOH, maybe they hired a shabbos goy (non jewish person hired to work on holy days when jews are forbidden to do almost anything from flipping a light

I remember a spill on the floor, there was discussion, it was forbidden to actually clean it, but if these paper towels should happen to fall on the mess, and by happenstance it should be stepped on a couple times, well that was ok. actually cleaning a spill could be cleaned up if it posed a risk to the safety of others who may be unaware of the danger.
