met my victim through work. i won't say how long ago because i will be mocked
we had a few things in common -- east coasters, she's also an attorney but came here to do acting. so similar paths. and there seemed to be a little bit of sparkage when she would come into the office and we chit chatted. boss also told me that she would only schedule her appointments for days when i was in. so that was a good sign. but i didn't want to date a client for my own reasons so i didn't pursue it
but when she came in to have us help promote the latest play she was in, i took the opportunity and asked if she minded if i came to see her. not really a "date" situation, but i think it showed her that i was interested in what she does. she was excited for me to come and i did and it was a cute play.
we facebooked each other. would occasionally exchange "hey how's it goings" and i would like and comment on things she posted. so last summer i figured to give it a shot and invited her to a thing at the hollywood bowl. she was back with her family in NYC a the time but asked me out for coffee when she got back, because she was having doubts about whether or not to stay in LA. we met and that was a good conversation, getting to know each other a little more outside the setting of the office. but i didn't really get a "let's do a date for real" vibe when it was over, so i just kind of let it there. but kept in touch with facebook.
last month, out of the blue, she invited me to her latest play. i went, she was happy to see me again and suggested we meet up again soon. so we figured out something that worked for both our schedules -- one of the free movies at the mall over by where she works -- and it's a date
all of which is to say, i guess i could have done it faster and sooner. and i probably could have had a lot more dates inbetween if i actively sought them out in bars or online or something. but sometimes it can be a longer process for nature to take it's course.
