I always feel like I'm bothering the librarians by asking for help. Like I've failed by not being self-sufficient.

This is silly, I know, but I do feel that way.
I did ask for help yesterday. There was a fiction book I wanted, the catalog said two copies were on the shelf, but none were, so I asked. The gentlemen walked over to re-check the shelf first (the obvious first thing to do, but it's so nerve-wracking to me, because I was sure he was going to find it and I'd feel dumb!). Neither copy was there, and he figured one was probably lost since it hadn't been checked out since 2005, but the other one should have been there.
He then went to the back to see if maybe someone had been reading it and it was awaiting re-shelving. I figured the odds were really low, but five minutes later he walked out with my book.
Lesson: it pays to ask?
