I hate citing wikipedia, but don't have time to look further.

According to this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_as_a_minority_language
"Today about 1.5 million Americans of largely German ancestry claim to speak German as a native or foreign language."

According to this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_American
"In 2006, the Chinese American population numbered approximately 3.6 million."

Seems to me more people speak chinese than german.
