All the parties have used it for years...its cheap and lets them stop at stop at all the little villages and towns across Canada...

It gives people the impression that the leaders are folksy and will travel like the common people. It allows them better access to small town Canada.
I did that for a couple of days during one election in the 90's. It can be lots of fun gets you to know people along the way.
