He really did, more so after they weren't winning in the 80's. But I have no doubt in my mind that Stick Michaels built those teams

that brought the Yankees those titles in the 90's. He drafted Jeter and refused to trade Mariano, Pettite and many others. George never would have kept so many young guys, he would have moved them for big names on their last legs.
He was poor judge of baseball talent but he was willing to do anything to win and that's why Yankee fans will always love him.
