I don't understand how the US and Canada can ship to one another given what I'm learning today.

It was a $51 item. Here are the charges:

6.96 canadian for shipping
30.10 brokerage fees (more than $20)
3.29 brokerage gst

And, humorously enough, if I want to pay the additional charges so that the buyer doesn't, I get charged $15 as an additional international commerce fee.

So, I would pay $55 in shipping for a $51 item.
