I'm for the manditory long-form, but that said, Stats Can has never been or was ever intended to answer to anyone but the Minister.

And when a DM or agency head refuses to obey a Minister, they need to do what Sheikh did and resign. (Resignations over matters of principle...Kinda nice...)
That said, I'm assuming the press release in question is his resignation and there's nothing about that that needs to be on the website. I don't think it's a ridiculous thing to take it down. (Unless you're talking about something else, then I don't know what that is...)
