There was some fair criticism. The biggest change in 5 years has been Shawn's Dad rejoining the force.

The dynamic hasn't changed between any of the characters, otherwise.
Compare that to Chuck which has seen growth of most of the characters over its 3 seasons.
I still enjoy Psych and thought last night had moments of brilliance. But Shawn can be a bit grating.
