More on census for NWBR........

sorry client took me away.

But notice that most of those things you referenced are on different databases and in different departments. For many small business owners (I am using them as my bias) and even for many members of the general public, they are already frustrated by the different levels of government and departments they have to go to get do what in their mind is a simple thing. Now you have to get competing governments and departments to not only share this information but make it availalble to the public at a reasonable cost.

The Survey of Household spending is compiled twice a year and could cover purchases such as maintenance but at this time its a cost (though not a huge cost) and its only by CMA's (Census Metropolitan Areas) and therefore individual cities and towns are not always available (Mississauga in included along with most of the GTA in the Toronto CMA).

See you are right when you say that the info might be available elsewhere but the census is the quickest, easiest and for the public most cost effective way to do it. And accurate.
