they were more fiscally sound to begin with since they were well run enough not to really need bailout money. they have strong overseas ops, and...

they've been pretty good in coming up with new models (like the Fusion hybrid, etc) that are garnering buzz. They also generally just have better management people and have for some time, imo. Also, they've gotten a big boost *because* of the bailouts to GM/Chrysler--not only do they have positive buzz by being the one to not take any government cash, they get to not have to have their books gone over by the government but they also get to take advantage of the price concessions in the marketplace that have happened for Chrysler/GM from suppliers, dealers, debt holders, etc.
