I'm going to say yes but I'll be honest I'm not 100%. I use handbreak if that helps. hehe custom setting I got from a friend.

For that content, you could probably grab an Acer Revo. Anything with an ION or ION2 chipset should work very well

ok I have no idea what this thing is. lol. can it do netflix? does it need a PC? Can a 1TB drive be connected?

It's a PC. You can run Windows on it (including Windows Media Center with Netflix) or XBMC if you want. You can connect USB drives to it for sure

It has an NVIDIA 9000 series GPU in it (just like a system I have at home). It can playback 1080p recorded ATSC HD no problem
