We're getting ready to vote on a parental-notification-of-minor-abortion ballot measure soon. I really don't understand the opposition.

The only argument I hear against the notification is "what if the parent(s) are abusing the pregnant kid?"
Well, by all means let's not do anything that might upset an established abusive household. Why would we want to interfere with that? Let's kill the fetus and send the girl home and pretend nothing's wrong.
If hospitals are required to call the cops every time they treat a gunshot, I say for every underage girl wanting an abortion, not only are parents notified, but notified by a police officer who asks a couple of questions to sniff around for potential abuse.
Yes, this rather conflicts with my usual libertarian leanings, but I do concede that there is a time and place for gov't intervention. If not for incidences of child abuse, then when?
