my mother's next door neighbours (a couple, married 29 years) are good friends of her's. They pet sit for each other, etc etc.
We shall call them Dan and Angela. So, Dan and Angela were planning to leave this past weekend to go on a two week vacation out to the Maritimes. My mom was going to take their dog like she always does.
So, the weekend previously (6 days before planned departure) they make all the final arrangements with my mom(a little complicated due to my mom being away while they leave, blah blah blah.) So, that's Sunday, and they are planning to leave on Saturday (again - just 6 days later.)
Monday: my mom sees Dan, he mentions a new medication the dog needs.
Tuesday: my mom sees the neighbour on the other side of Dan and Angela's - old old friends as well. That neighbour we'll call Joe. My mom asks Joe if he still has Dan and Angela's extra key. Joe says, "no, Angela got it from me this morning." Mom says "oh, great, i'll get it from her, it's for me to get the dog on the weekend." Joe says "Oh, i don't think Angela is going away now." Mom says "really? i talked to her two days ago." Joe says "You should call her."
Mom calls.
Angela says "I think Dan just left me. He said he needs time to think. he's gone to Mount Rushmore." (Andie Editorial note: Mount Rushmore? really? why?)
Mom = shocked. Totally blindsided, as was Angela.
Thursday: Mom visits Angela. Angela very angry and pissed off that Dan is seemingly having a midlife crisis.
Friday: Angela visits Mom. Dan has called. He's in Las Vegas where he is now apparently living with his girlfriend which Angela has now just learned about (Dan, Angela and new girlfriend are all 52 years old, btw). He has been involved with her for a year. Dan says that when he last saw new girlfriend 6 months ago, she had sent him home to Canada to try to work things out with his wife (his wife who didn't know there was anything to work out.) And now Dan has shown up on girlfriend's doorstep and told her that he and Angela couldn't make it work and he wants to be with her. Dan ALSO told Angela that he was giving her the house and he would just come back in December to pick up his stuff, WITH THE GIRLFRIEND, and he hopes that ANGELA AND THE GIRLFRIEND can be friends because he thinks they would really like each other.
Note: my mom's street does an annual whole-street-yard sale each year. this year's is in two weeks, Angela is selling all Dan's stuff according to her.
