really, this thing isn't as bad as the other privacy concerns/exploits fb has had; but that's because I have gone in and set everything I could to private along the way. that could not be done all at once, as some of that was only made available over time.
because of the stoopid complexity of the security settings, making people have to opt-out, etc., my complaint about this is that they knew compiling might well happen and didn't do anything to protect those who haven't yet navigated through the mess.
(youropenbook's "why this is bad" has a good suggestion for how to make the process better/easier, btw.)
