Do we think it's too late to grow tomatoes this year if my plants are still relatively small?

I had a difficult time getting them started this year - after one set died, I tried again. The 2nd try was more successful but they are still small enough to fit in am 8-inch pot - I just transferred them to a big container. will I get tomatoes this year, or will they not grow big enough, fast enough?
