Torchlight starts @ Seattle Center, so if you head north of its starting point (it starts @ 7:30, too)...

...and come into the park from the North -- drop down from the 45th street exit, you will do much better than fighting road closures nr Seattle Center.
Google Maps gives you the option to drag your route away from where you don't want to go.
Another option would be to exit I-5 @ the Stadiums, and stay west of Queen Anne, then drop in form the west side.
