i disagree. he's applying for a job that doesn't report up through his wife; it's a different department.

theoretically the problem lies in the fact that the two women should be on the same side - they are both working for the same company, after all. therefore they shouldn't have such a stupid rivalry to begin with.
but strategically debra would be stupid to hire barney unless she has a genuine desire to repair relations with samantha, and she thinks this is a means to that end. otherwise it sounds simply like a courtesy interview to me.
