Concert Review: The All Hearts Tour - Robyn and Kelis

Venue: Sold Out at the 9:30 Club in DC.

Crowd: Probably 90% Male, 10% Female, almost the entire audience was mid 20s to early 30s.

Opener:

Dan Black: He did an alright set. The guitars were a little loud, and they tended to drown out the actual singing. He was really into the performance which was a positive. The music just seemed a tad bit overproduced. B-

Co-Headliners:

Kelis: Simply put, she brought the house down. Kelis started out with a few of her new songs, she started with "Emancipate" which might be the gayest song of the summer, but is a crowd pleaser. For an hour she had everyone in the venue dancing hard. She played a few of her old hits, but mainly they were part of medleys. She did completely alter "Milkshake" and make it a dance song and they moved right into a cover of Madonna's "Holiday." She isn't the strongest singer out there, but she was totally into the show and had enough lights etc going on to make it a true dance party. The hour went by way too fast and when it finally ended, she had the entire audience begging for more. A+

Robyn: I think the crowd was on such a high from Kelis that everyone was exhausted and had forgotten about Robyn. Well, she didn't disappoint. She fits very well with Kelis, and for an hour and a half she played songs from her last 2 albums, with a handful from her early work, including "Show me Love." She kept singing and dancing all around and everytime she was about to stop the crowd went nuts (at 11:45PM on a Monday mind you) and she kept going. Why this girl is no wildly popular in American is astounding. A

Seriously download "Body Talk, Part 1" and "Flesh Tone" for a musical awakening.
