This is amazingly dumb on both of their parts if true.

Airlines tend to copycat each other like crazy - same fares, same fees. It's basically collusion without talking to each other about it, and has been accepted as okay since there's a the risk that your rival won't copy you.
So, if Delta and AirTran did this, they deserve what they get.
