Don't know what a US subscription would cost, but I've been loving Macleans for the last several years.

They did a revamp a few years back which increased the amount of articles, the lenght of articles and they also have also moved towards "thoughtful" cover stories. (ie, some provacative topics, contrarian thinking, etc.)
