there's substance there, but i don't think i buy the idea that "place based" education will wither...

this sort of thing sounds a lot like the whole "death of distance" thing from the 90's. y'know--we can all teleconference, so that'll do away with the office! with conferences! with physical meetings! and really, though the tech is there now and is used extensively, people still find face to face meetings and physical conferences invaluable.
or sort of like how they said cities would wither because many more people could telecommute. which hasn't happened--in fact, cities are more important than ever as clusters of innovation.
i can see distance education becoming more important--it has already. but the social side of undergraduate college will keep it attractive. i think the benefits of physical agglomeration will stay of value for some time.
