Here's the thing: if you want to celebrate Victory over Japan Day in a reasonably tasteful way, do it when they formally surrendered.

Which would be September 2. Doing it on August 6 is to my mind directly dancing on the graves of the 80,000 civilians we killed that day to put an end to that war. I think it's in really shitty taste, myself, and I don't think it makes me unpatriotic to say so. The only reason its still celebrated here is because the dumb fucks around here don't want to give up an extra day at the beach in August.
