Thing is, I live in a small town, and all the cars are for sale in Calgary.

I can't be driving them out here to have them looked at by my mechanic. Also, how many dollars should I be expected to spend on a vehicle I may or may not even buy? If I was selling a car this would be something I would do before I ever listed the car.
