I think it changed from a physical relationship to an emotional relationship when she went to his sister's wedding. I think Alex was ready to move on, to be with him. He just needed to give her a signal at the airport. And he didn't. She got hurt, and when he showed up, she panicked. Then got pissed at him when she called him. He didn't step up.
Yeah she should have told him that she was married, but I think with a lot of effort, they could have made it work
