Cat travel issues

Background: my cat is 15 years old and overweight but still in good health considering. His major issue is arthritis so he moves gingerly under normal circumstances. He's never been good with car rides.

After the long (10+ hour) car ride he is acting very strange. He was fine during the car ride basically sleeping the whole time. After the ride he can barely walk and then only a couple of feet before resting. He is extremely unsteady and wobbly. He is also spending time hiding under the futon which is unusual. He acted the same way after the drive to Pennsylvania and was back to normal after 2-3 days so I'm not overly concerned. Could it be extended effects of motion sickness? Stress? I don't give him any medication when he travels.

It just sucks that he's getting old.
