In response to "We had a customer at the bakery who would occasionally do this while she would run in to buy cupcakes -- (link)" by znufrii

did i tell ST about the dog-in-river-rescue-baby-pretty-much-forgotten story from about 2 weeks ago?

we were finished jogging but still on the river path near our house and just stretching. right beside us was a grandpa, mom, and about a three year old boy and a pug. the dog and the kid were playing WAY too close to the water's edge, and, literally, as i was planning what i would do if either fell in (grab floatation ring that was right there and jump in if was the kid kid, or grab long metal hook if it was the dog) and then, like magic, the dog fell in.

the mother beat me to the hook and was trying to fish out the dog, and she was yelling at grandpa (her father, obvie) to watch her son. Meanwhile, i had grabbed the kid's hand because he was running towards mom and i knew he'd fall in, so i yelled that he was fine and i'd watch him. grandpa and mom fish the dog out (he was also fine), they thank me profusely (i didn't do much). and Dave and I start to leave. we get back to the path (easily 50 feet from where they were) and find there is a baby carriage there, completely unattended, and yes, there was a baby in it. we sort of pause and look over to the rescue scene and mom sees us and says "OH MY GOODNESS!" and runs over to get the carriage, and looked chagrinned, thanked us again, etc.

the thing is, it's not like she ran from the carriage when the dog fell in. mom BEAT ME to the hook that was only a few feet away from me, she was right there. the baby had been alone before that.
