although, i'll through this out there: if you're talking "best pitcher", then that has to account for results, not expected future performance.

and while I understand BABIP and what it means, it does definitely mean that Liriano was hit a lot more than some other guys. maybe it was unlucky or whatever, but the best pitcher doesn't get hit.
I'm all for BABIP as a stat to help predict future performance. I think it's awesome. But to use it to say that a guy who gave up a lot of hits is having a better season than a guy who didn't is, I think, a misuse of the stat.
