It's entirely possible he's pitching at the end of next year.

Zimmermann had TJ surgery last August, and he pitched last night. After about 40 innings in 10 minor league games.
I think it varies from player to player, but I also think that the recovery time is getting shorter and shorter. Though not to the degree of NFL players recovering from ACL tears.
