What a great mini-vacation in Amish-land I had!

Perfect weather (mid-70's, sunny), beautiful countryside, great food, good shopping! This is my 2nd trip to northern Ohio Amish country. I recommend it. I can see myself going back again.

It was still very cool to drive down a 2-lane farm country road and realize there were no telephone/light poles & wires.

I regret scaring a horse so he backed his buggy into a ditch. In my defense it really wasn't my fault. It's pretty hilly there and even though I came over the crest of the hill slowly (because you never know if there's a buggy just out of sight) the horse still got spooked. The girl got down, grabbed the horse's halter & guided the buggy back onto the road. No damage, thankfully. She seemed to take it in stride.

Spent a couple hours in a hardware store. No electrical items at all. Very cool stoves, some like the one my grandmother used. A whole department for oil lamps. Everything you'd need for canning and/or making cheese. It was like going into a museum where you could touch everything. Lots of fun.

Had the best chicken ever at Der Dutchman Restaurant. I don't think I've ever had broasted chicken before. Had a very yummy burger the next day at another Amish restaurant. All the food tasted very fresh (as I'm sure it was). I had a salad with very small cherry tomatoes that tasted like they were just picked from the back garden. Peanutbutter pie! I tried both a mustard & beet hard boiled egg. I liked them! One Amish dish I didn't want to try was the noodles in chicken gravy over mashed potatoes. Seem at bit of over-kill.

Got a really cool t-shirt...it says "Amish Gone Wild". Under that is a hand reaching out to a light switch. When I saw it I had to get it!
