I think so, but I'd imagine receiving the same type blood is preferable.

I'm AB-, and I've never quite understood the whole thing. Donating blood doesn't seem to be a huge deal, but the blood centers go absolutely gaga over my platelets. Not sure why.

I believe I was told 1% of the population has AB- blood.
