In response to "It seems like all I need to do is get my hand vaguely near the touchpad and crazy shit happens. nm" by ralph wiggum

I got a new Toshiba laptop a couple of months ago and immediately plugged in a cordless mouse. I had no idea that the touchpad didn't turn off.

The cursor was so erratic it drove me crazy. The I actually looked up the problem and had a major "doh" moment. If you're going to use a mouse, you have to go into pointer devices and check a box that says "turn off touchpad when other device is used". Once I did that, no more erratic cursor.
