or, in other words: people need actual relationships, with people who they share commonalities with and can relate to on a simple day-to-day level.

that's usually an SO, but if you aren't there for your SO in that way, it's not fair to expect them to just sit at home and talk to you on the phone. especially when she starts telling you stories about people you've never met and places you haven't seen and you attempt to fake interest but can't because you truly don't give a shit, and she could get a much more favorable response from local up-the-street guy.
