I have a rule that I don't talk about my personal life at work ever. ever. all anyone knows is that I have a sister, because, hello? what else do you

need to know?
so I got an email from corporate telling me that I *must* be somewhere two months from now. on the days in question, I have plane tickets for elsewhere for personal reasons. the vacation time was approved locally, but I know that it'll be yanked out from under me if I protest without cause.
can I say I'm getting married? I mean, why couldn't I? right?

my work is like all personal things all the time. I spent much of yesterday afternoon judging men on eharmony.

I think you should be mysterious and just tell them you scheduled the time off well in advance because it requires advance

tell them you have a prior commitment to kill someone. say they wronged you 8 years ago and the time for cold revenge cannot be changed -- nm

I'll assume that the last line of your IM refers to concocting a white lie to keep the vacation time you deserve ...
