I don't buy this. I have no measurable impact on what is broadcast, and I don't think Nielsen is a true representation of what people watch.

Sure, they're statistical professionals. I still don't buy the argument that consumers drive television content. It's the companies believing that's what people want, and then saying "this is what you want, right?" and then getting a half hearted nod.
