Unfortunately many parents resort to screaming back at the kid, hitting the kid (like that works?), or just letting them act out.

I have no idea when the notion of "HERE'S MY KID, YOU SHOULD ADORE HIM/HER JUST LIKE I DO" became the prevailing sentiment, but I damn sure wish this kind of thinking would run its course.
