I used to complain about the 'gifted' program I was in in middle school...

We did a bunch of 'creative' stuff like make movie posters for Shakespeare plays instead of learning actual English rules and stuff.
I got to 9th grade and was stunned the first week of English class because I had no idea what a gerund was or how to diagram a sentence.
For years I complained about how ill-prepared the 'gifted' program made me.
Then I realized that I now make my living making posters and comparable items, and haven't needed to know what a gerund is or how to diagram a sentence in 20 years.
