in that specific hypo, i would think there could be enough Blue Dog Dems to offset any far-right votes they would lose

assuming the GOP leadership is in fact interested in putting forth its own comprehensive immigration reform proposal, and owning the problem as its own. i'm skeptical that they have any such interest
