Having had this conundrum/debate while we arranged our own wedding, I'd not be offended or put off by it.

Responses:

wanting cash is one thing. having people give that advice is fine. putting it in writing is the problem. gifts are NOT obligatory for wedding guests. - Andie Sep 17, 08:22 2
