I read the message as little more than a heads up. "Given the tradition, it would be likely that people would want to give gifts.

And we apprecieate that but we haven't set up a registry because we have all the things we need. Catering a party for ## people is kind of expensive though, so if you feel like giving cash, that would be appreciated too."
