I read his journal and it gave me a totally different perspective on the guy.

He truly was a driven artist but he was terrified of the spotlight. It wasn't one of those "Oh I'm a big star and never have any privacy" whines you hear from a lot of semi and real celebrities, but was genuine fear. He also went from doctor to doctor to try to find the diagnosis and treatment of his stomach/abdominal pain, but he never got one. They would either say it was stress or unexplained pain and throw narcotics at him. I think if the same thing were to happen now, with the advances in diagnostic medicine, he'd be tested until a diagnosis was found.
The worst day of his life was the day he met Courtney Love. Even if (and this is a big if) she didn't actually physically pull the trigger, she was the cause of it.
